vidonge vyetu from uganda
AS A UGANDAN WHO WORKED AND LIVED IN TANZANIA FOR CLOSE TO TEN YEARS IWOULD LIKE TO COMMENT ON THE ATTITUDE OF MOST TANZANIAN OFFICIALS WHENIT COMES TO MATTERS EASTAFRICAN.
TANZANIAN OFFICIALS SEEM NOT TO WANTANYTHING TO DO WITH SAY THE CUSTOMS UNION OR EVEN THE FREE MOVEMENT OFPEOPLE AND GOODS. AND USUALLY THEIR ARGUMENT IS THAT ANY SUCH A UNIONWILL BE A DISADVANTAGE TO TANZANIANS.

FOR INSTANCE IN THE GUARDIAN TODAY, OPPOSITION MP HAS AGAIN RETARATEDWHAT WE NON TANZANIANS HAVE HEARD OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO QUOTE HIM HE SAYS "Bakary added that Tanzania had enormous land resources, unlike its neighbours.
"He cautioned that the opening up of borders could lead the countryinto a land crisis. On employment, Bakary said with the common marketprotocol and free movement of labour, many Tanzanians risked losingjobs to highly educated and competitive Kenyans".

WELL, I WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT ON HIS STATEMENT BY SAYING THAT WHAT HEIS SAYING IS NOT WELL RESEARCHED AND THUS TO ME ITS NOT TRUE. THEIR IS NO WAY TANZANIA CAN LIVE IN ISOLATION FROM HER NEIGHBOURS JUST BECAUSEOF SUCH ISSUES.
FOR INSTANCE IN MY TOWN OF JINJA NYTIL A TEXTILE FACTORY HAS EMPLOYED A LOT OF TANZANIANS ON JOBS THAT WOULD HAVE OTHERWISE BEEN DONE BY UGANDANS. THOUSANDS OF TANZANIANS STUDY AND CONDUCT BUSINESS IN THE OTHER EAST AFRICAN NATIONS. THUS SUCH ALARMISTSTATEMENTS SHOULD BE DISCOURAGED AT ALL COSTS, UNLESS OF COURSETANZANIA PLANS TO BUILD A WALL AROUND ITSELF.
IN ADDITION OUR COUNTRIES HAVE BECOME STABLE AND THE WAGES HAVE IMPROVED THEREFORE FOR THE QUALIFIED, TANZANIA IS NOT REALLY AN OPTION WHEN SEEKING EMPLOYMENT.
I HOWEVER STAND TO BE CORRECTED ON THIS ISSUE AND I WOULD LOVE TO HEARFROM OTHER READERS ABOUT WHAT THEY THINK ON THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE.
