By ASSAH MWAMBENE
Agriculture and trade promotion sectors were among the key areas that received a new consideration in the four documents signed in Dar es Salaam, yesterday between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Tanzania.
The documents include a Memorandum of Understanding between the Board of External Trade of Tanzania (BET) and the Iran Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) that provide for the two parties to participate in the joint trade fairs and exhibitions.
It also calls for the parties to co-operate in identifying and discussing areas of high export and import potential and if deemed necessary conducting a joint marketing research into the identified areas.
The BET Director General, Mr Ramadhan Khalfan signed the Agreement for Tanzania while Iran was represented by Dr. Mahdi Ghazanfari, the Deputy Minister and Head of ITPO
The two countries also agreed to cooperate in the field of agriculture, especially in the area of exchanging experts, processing technologies, extension services, farm management, crop production, food production and agricultural implements and machinery.
They also agreed to exchange materials and information relating to agriculture, trainees and scientists on study and training visits.
The MoU on Agriculture was signed by the Minister for agriculture, Food Security and Co-operatives, Mr. Stephen Wasira for Tanzania, while Iran was represented by its Minister for Agriculture, Mohammad Eskandari.
Of equally importance is the MoU between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation of Tanzania and that of Iran, in which they agreed to enhance co-operation in matters of consultation and diplomatic exchange.
