Millenium Challenge...

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) released its 2007 Annual Report summarizing how MCC programs are changing lives and alleviating poverty in partner countries. The report chronicles MCC’s achievements, specifically developments during the last fiscal year,to reduce poverty through economic growth and, as a result its positive impact on some of the world’s poorest people in 40 countries worldwide.
The report’s release comes on the heels of an April 11th meeting on the margins of IMF meetings in Washington, D.C., between MCC CEO Ambassador John Danilovich On the Picture Left and Tanzanian Minister for Finance and Planning Mustapha Mkullo. They met to discuss the progress of implementation of Tanzania’s $698.1 million MCC Compact, designed to help Tanzania reduce poverty through economic growth.
Ambassador Danilovich and Minister Mkullo expressed agreement on their shared belief that Tanzania was off to a strong start in implementing the Compact, and that the country is in an excellent position to ensure its rapid and successful implementation. The two briefly discussed the issue of corruption in Tanzania while commenting on Tanzania’s Threshold program. The Threshold program—a two year initiative—will come to an end September 30, 2008.
Ambassador Danilovich and Minister Mkullo agreed that the Threshold program was very successful and noted that other donors are considering a commitment to continue certain aspects of the program. In the Annual Report, Tanzania’s Threshold program is deemed to be improving lives by training journalists on investigative reporting techniques to bolster press freedoms.
